Ida Schneider neé Gans (1868-1942)

Ida Schneider, née Gans, was born on June 12, 1868 in Heiligenstadt (Thuringia). Her father, the garment maker Nathan Gans, came from Abterode (Werra-Meißner district), her mother Matthilde Gans from the Gräfenberg family from Adelebsen (Göttingen district). Ida’s first marriage was to Joseph Enoch, (b. Altona 31.10.1854 – d. Hamburg 21.11.1936 — rabbi, teacher and professor in Hamburg). This marriage was divorced on May 25, 1917 in Hamburg.
It is not yet known under what circumstances Ida came to Leipzig. In Leipzig she married the head cantor of the Brody Synagogue, Hillel Schneider, with whom she lived in Lessingstraße. The date of the marriage is still unknown.
After Hillel Schneider emigrated to Oslo in 1939, Ida Schneider’s application to emigrate was only granted in 1940. She followed him and lived with Hillel and his daughter Yda Fried (née Schneider) and Jacob Fried in Oslo until the end of her life. Ida Schneider, née Gans, died on September 2, 1942 at the age of 74.
